On Sunday, we completed another 1/2 marathon. The first San Francisco Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon was exactly the same course as the US Half Marathon, but it was a bigger and better event. It was very well organized. The race organizer must have arranged a special flat fee ($10!) with Ghirardelli Square Parking for the duration of the race. For the US Half Marathon events, we paid a fortune to park there ($40!). They also give you a nice gear check bag with a plastic bag in case of wet weather.

The weather changed from overcast, fog, misty rain, sunny, and wind (very typical of the Bay Area weather). Numerous cheering squads along the way were very encouraging and fun. Thanks to recent rainy days in the Bay Area, beautiful wild flowers were in full bloom. It was one of the most beautiful races we did. I smiled all the way to the end (except when I was running the mean hills...). This race really made me appreciate the last four months of my training the most. Training really makes a difference! I felt great! Unfortunately for Colin, he forgot to put body glide on his legs. As a result, he suffered terrible chafing pain between his legs. But, he didn't give up. We decided to finish together on this race, and we did.

After the race, we went to the Alameda Point Antique Flea Market. A long walk on the field was really tough on our already tired legs. We didn't buy anything this time, but we still had a good time. Needless to say, at the end of the day, we were utterly exhausted.

We completed our 5th 1/2 Marathon on Sunday. The race took place at the beautiful Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. It turned out to be a nice and warm day, but it started out chilly in the morning. I was so cold that I was not able to feel my toes! The race course was nice and flat all the way (yes, FLAT in San Francisco!). I felt pretty good during my first hour until we arrive at the scenic shoreline portion of the course that lasted 9.5km. The hardest part of this shoreline course was that you run 4.7km (flat and straight) and then you run back another 4.7km on the same road.  On the way back, you're even more tired (mentally and physically), your feet hurt more, and you know how long it takes to run back (because you just did it!). That was challenging!

I did much better than my past three races. Amazing what a month of training can accomplish! This time, I also fuelled myself better by taking my coach's advise. I took a packet of energy gel 15 mins before the race, and planned to have the gel every 30min. During the race, I ended up taking only 3 gels instead of 4. I definitely got my fill of gel :)
The race had plenty of water and Gatorade stations throughout. I was well hydrated. The race was well organized, and volunteers were constantly cheering for runners, which really helped!

Learning from our previous after race lunch experience, we made a better choice (much better!) for our after race lunch this time. We had a bowl of salad and grilled cheese sandwich. That's pretty good, isn't it? Believe it of not, we do learn from our mistakes:)
