先週の日曜日に『Alameda Point Antique Fair』に行ってきました。いやはや、あまりの規模の大きさに驚きました。素敵なアンティークが滑走路にいっぱい。この規模の大きさは、まさにアメリカンです！一年を通して毎月第一日曜日に行われます。なんと朝６時からのスタートです。入場料は入る時間帯によって異なります（午後２時以降は無料）。入場料と時間帯の詳細はここから。アンティークに熱心な人は戦利品を求めて朝一番にやってくるようです。家具などを載せることができるショッピングカートもレンタルできます。カートいっぱいに家具を運んでいる人達を沢山みかけました。アンティークに熱心な人もそれほど興味がない人も、楽しめるフェアです。

では、『Alameda Point Antique Fair』の楽しみ方のポイントです：

☁ 会場に入ったら、真っ先にフェアの一番後ろまで一気に歩きましょう。よそ見をしてはいけませんよ。後でゆっくり見れますから。そうすると、足を棒にして見終わったフェア会場で、出口目指してまた歩く必要がありません（これはお友達から教わったポイントです）。

☁ 会場も広いですが、何と言っても飛行機の滑走路ですから、駐車場も広い！車をどこに止めたかしっかりと覚えておきましょう。アルファベットがそれぞれの列に記してあります。駐車した場所を忘れると「オーマイゴット！」と嘆くことになります。

☁ 値段は必ず交渉しましょう。交渉が苦手な人は交渉上手なお友達を連れてゆきましょう。

☁ 巻き尺があると便利です

☁ 買い物袋を忘れずに。

☁ 現金があると便利。お店によってはクレジットカート可能のところもあります。

☁ 歩き易い靴をはくこと。これは大切です。

☁ 写真を沢山撮りましょう。今度また来る時のアイデアにもなります。

☁ 野外トイレは時間が経つだけ汚れていきます....。ウェットティッシュは必需品です。

結局、これも欲しいあれも欲しいと言いながら何も買わずに帰って来ました...。今度はちゃんと目的を持ってアンティーク買いに挑むつもりです。次回は、「フェアで食べた物」について紹介します。結局、最後は食べ物です。

Last Sunday, we went to the Alameda Point Antique Fair. Wow, I've never seen such an amazing collection of cool antiques all in one day! The volume of stuff they have on a seemingly never ending stretch of runway is absolutely incredible. We had lots of fun looking at everything. The fair takes place on the 1st Sunday of every month. It opens at 6 am with an admission fee (it's free after 2pm - see here for times and fees). You can rent a cart at the fair for your shopping as well. Whether you are an antique enthusiast or not, you've got to go to this fair. There's something for everyone. 

Here are some tips we learned on how to shop at the fair:

☁ Start from the end. You want to walk straight to the end of the runway, resisting the temptation to look at each booth. That way, you won't get totally exhausted at the end of your shopping because you know you have to walk all the way back....(best tip we got from our friends!)

☁ Remember where you park as the parking lot is massive! Each row is marked in alphabetical order.

☁ Always negotiate the price (or bring a savvy friend who is happy to negotiate for you!)

☁ Bring a measuring tape

☁ Bring shopping bags

☁ Bring plenty of cash for your antiques and food at the fair (some vendors do accept credit cards)

☁ Wear comfortable shoes.  This is critical ! 

☁ Take lots of pictures for your next visit (or for future inspiration)

☁ Bring hand wipes as the outdoor washrooms are not nice !

We actually ended up buying nothing at the fair because we were totally overwhelmed ! But, we'll go back there next time for some specific items. I'll talk about what we ate at the fair in a future post (always about food!). Stay tuned!

BART (train)
AC Transit- Route 31 (bus)

Take BART to 12th Street Station in Oakland, catch the Route 31 bus at 11th and Broadway (southbound), take bus to Saratoga Street (last stop), walk 3 blocks to the Fair.
