元旦のおもち ❖ Breakfast on New Year's Day

今年の元旦の「お雑煮」は、くるみもちです(飯島奈美さんのレシピから)。コーヒーとの相性も良く、元旦の朝にふさわしいおもちです。くるみは、フライパンで軽く炒ってからすり鉢ですりました。

Breakfast on new year's day in Japan starts with mochi. Mochi is very filling so a single piece of mochi is enough for one serving.  I made mochi with sweet walnut coating on new year's day this year. I love sweet mochi as it goes surprisingly well with coffee. This recipe is from Nami Iijima (I translated the recipe in English below).

Ingredients (2 servings) :

2 pieces Mochi, cut into bite sizes
20 g walnuts, lightly toasted
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 teaspoon soy sauce
A pinch of cinnamon

Directions :

(1) Crush toasted walnuts 
(2) Mix the crushed walnuts, sugar, and soy sauce. Add a pinch of cinnamon to the walnut mixture.
(3) Put mochi into boiling water and cook at very low heat for 3 minutes
(4) Scoop out mochi and coat with the walnut mixture and serve
