We saw two amazing films over the long weekend. They both deserve the best prize! Colin is determined to watch all the films nominated for the Best pictures this year. We got two more films to watch before the Oscar night (February 24). Which movie have you watched so far?
先週末、素晴らしい映画を2本観ました。どちらがアカデミー作品賞を受賞してもおかしくないくらいです。コリンが、アカデミー作品賞にノミネートされている映画を全部観たいと言い出したので、後残りの2本を日曜日のアカデミーまでに観る予定。皆さんは、どの映画を観られましたか？

Where did they find this girl (Quvenzhane Wallis)?! She is absolutely amazing in this film! This film will make you see the world differently. What is also incredible is the actor who played her father (Dwight Henry) has never acted in a movie before. He owns a bakery in the area where this movie was filmed, and the Director discovered him at the bakery (this bakery)! We almost feel the Academy needs a separate category for this film alone. It's hard to compare "Beasts of the Southern Wild" with any other films nominated for an Oscar this year. We loved it❤
主演の女の子、一体どこから探し出してきたのでしょうか？この女の子なしでは、この映画は成功しなかったと言っても過言ではありません。女の子の父親役の俳優さんも凄い。彼は、この映画に出るまで演技を一切したことがありません。なんと、映画が撮影された街のパン屋さんを経営。映画スタッフは、彼のパン屋さんによく通っていたそうです。そして、監督にスカウトされたのです（このパン屋さん）。『ハッシュパピー 〜バスタブ島の少女〜』を他の映画と比較するのは、不公平な気さえする映画でした。

We had no plans to watch this film because it sounded extremely sad and depressing. But since it was also selected for best picture of the year, we had to see it. We're glad we saw it. We thought it was going to be extremely painful to watch, because of the reputation the film Director has (Michael Haneke). But, it wasn't. I'm not saying it's an uplifting movie (I definitely missed the point, if that's the case). What surprised me was the sense of calmness that existed throughout the movie (despite what you are watching), and that somehow extended to the audience too. I heard no sobbing or sniffling in the theatre.
I said earlier that Daniel Day-Lewis should win Best Actor. After seeing "Amour," I'm so not sure. I think the actor who played the husband in this film might deserve it (Jean-Louis Trintignant). But, Colin just told me that he is not even nominated for Best Actor. How's that even possible!
『愛、アムール』の評判は聞いていましたが、観る予定はなかった映画でした。予告編を観ただけで、観るのがつらくなる映画だということは一目瞭然。更に、ミヒャエル‧ハネケ監督の映画は精神的にものすごく悪そうな作品が多いことで有名（笑）。それでも、思い切って観て良かったです。観るのもつらい映画と、心の準備をして観たものの、なぜか不思議と落ち着いて観ることができたのは、作品の力でしょうか。ストーリーは、どう考えても希望のあるものとは思えませんが、映画が終わっても泣いている人は誰一人いない様子でした。泣き虫の私は、大いに泣く覚悟でいたのですが（笑）。映画の中にある静けさが、映画を観ている観客にも深く浸透していくのがわかる映画でした。
以前のブログで、ダニエル‧デイ＝ルイスが主演俳優賞をとるに違いないと予測しましたが、この映画を観た後は、『愛、アムール』の夫役を演じたジャン＝ルイ・トランティニャンが賞をとるのでは？と思いました。ところが！ジャン＝ルイ・トランティニャンは、主演俳優賞にノミネートされていないよと、コリンが今教えてくれました。なんたることでしょう？私の予測は全く当てになりません（笑）。
Christopher B. Smith Rafael Film Center in San Rafael downtown
We didn't expect to see such a beautiful theatre in a not so attractive San Rafael downtown.
一見、ぱっとしないサンラファエルのダウンタウンにある『Christopher B. Smith Rafael Film Center』という映画館。因に、このサンラファエルのダウンタウンは、『アメリカン‧グラフィティ』の舞台にもなった街です。
