To make your Japanese instant curry extra special and delicious, you need to add deep fried shrimp.

I use frozen deep fried shrimp that can be warmed up in the oven!

If you have not yet tried Japanese curry, you need to find a Japanese restaurant that serves it this weekend (hopefully a good one...). Japanese curry is a popular comfort food in Japan. Everyone loves it (so will you!). You can make it yourself like this one, or you can get yourself a Japanese instant curry. When you hear the word "instant," your immediate thought is probably not so good. But, you have to trust me on this. Japanese instant curry is incredibly delicious! My favourite is this one. If you have frozen deep fried shrimp in the freezer, you are going to make yourself a very happy person (or in my case, make Colin a very happy person). 

Colin and I happen to love pickled rakkyo (I'm lucky to be married to a Canadian man who enjoys rakkyo with me). Rakkyo and fukushinzuke are the best friends of Japanese curry. If you don't have deep fried frozen shrimp, you can put a sunny side up egg on top instead (yum, yum!). Now, run to your nearest Japanese grocery store and get yourself instant curry boxes (or order them online). You can choose any rice you like for your curry (I won't judge you). However, since this is Japanese curry after all, Japanese rice is the rice I recommend STRONGLY. Next time, your lucky friend who travels to Japan asks you "what do you want from Japan?", you know what to ask for.

海外生活が長くなるにつれて恋しくなるのは、日本のスーパーのお惣菜コーナー。今日は晩ご飯作るの面倒だなと思った時、美味しい日本のお惣菜屋さんがあるとどんなにいいだろうと思います。北米のスーパーの代表的な「お惣菜コーナー」は、チキン、ポテトサラダ、マカロニサラダ、フライドポテト等が一般的。そこで、最近我が家で大人気なのが、日本のインスタントカレー！（サンフランシスコの日本のスーパーで購入）。あっという間にできて、心温まるおいしさ。カナダ人も日本人も大喜び（笑）。オーブンで焼くだけの「海老フライ」ものせて、エビカレーにも早変わり。コリンの好きならっきょうものせて完成です（らっきょう好きなカナダ人と一緒になって良かった）。皆さん、日本の美味しいインスタントカレーを海外に紹介しましょう！
