前から行ってみたいと思っていた『Heath Ceramics (ヒースセラミックス)』のお店が、今住んでいるSan Rafaelから車で10分ほどにあるSausalito（サウサリート）という町にあると知って、驚きました。『Heath Ceramics』は、40年代にEdith Heathさん(1911-2005)という女性の陶芸家によって設立されました。Heathの陶器はシンプルで温かみがあって、とても愛らしいものです。決して安いものではありませんが、環境への配慮そして陶器を作る職人さんに対する敬意がその値段に含まれていると理解すると、公平な値段ではないかと思います。お店は期待通りに素敵でした。Sausalitoの本店では、Heath Ceramicsの厳しい品質基準にわずかにはずれてしまった陶器を割り引いた値段で手に入れることもできます。素人の目では、どこがよくなかったのかはわからない程度なので、Heath Ceramicsを安く購入できる魅力あるサービスです。今回は嬉しさに圧倒され、何も買わずに帰ってきてしまいましたが、今度はクレジットカード片手に、お気に入りのHeath Ceramicsを手に入れてきます。ウェブサイトは、www.heathceramics.comです。

I always wanted to visit a Heath Ceramics store. Little did I know, there is one in Sausalito California, which is only a 10 mininute drive from San Rafael! The store in Sausalito is located where the Heath Ceramics factory is. Their ceramics are all made locally. I love the simplicity of their ceramics. They are not cheap, but if you really think of the real cost of labor and environment, you appreciate that it's a fair price. They pride themselves in producing their ceramics in a most environmentally and sustainable way. Potters who produce these beautiful ceramics are treated with respect. The founder of Heath Ceramics is Edith Heath (1911-2005).  The Sausalito store also sells their discounted ceramics that did not meet their first quality standard ( but really, you wouldn't notice it!). I'm certainly going back there to get my first Heath ceramics very soon. Their web site is www.heathceramics.com
